Preparing & fruiting block: This mushroom is great for "top fruiting": Slice the top of the bag completely off so that there is a large opening, slice up the side of the excess plastic. Be sure not to harm the white filter on the bag in this process. Scrape the top of the block gently with a fork. Mist the top of the block 2-3x per day. Once your mushroom pins are about 2 inches are so, fold the excess plastic down over the block. These mushrooms are slower to pin than other oyster mushrooms.
Harvest: Harvest before caps flatten out. This mushroom has a great shelf life in the fridge.
Flavor: Savory, rich, smoky flavor.
Cooking: Both the stems and caps of the Black King Trumpet are edible with the stems being thick and tender. This mushroom is quite versatile being that it is a wonderful addition to any risotto or pasta dishes, but can also be prepared on its own roasted or pan fried!

1.Place your prepped bag in the most humid part of your home (ie. next to the sink) and no hotter than the recommended temp for the varying strain of mushroom.
2. Keep the kit hydrated by spraying the outside of the block near the slice 2x/day with water.
3. If your home is dry, create a DIY humidity tent by using a plastic bag with holes in it and placing it over your fruiting block, spraying the inside of the "tent" 2x/day.
+Do not leave your kit in direct sunlight.
+Do not over mist and drown your kit.
+Do not wait too long to harvest. The kit pictured is at the point of perfection for harvest. Once you see your first pins of mushrooms, your mushrooms will be ready for harvest within 5-10 days!
+You will get about 2-3 flushes of mushrooms off of one 6lb block, with each subsequent harvest being smaller.
All that is left to do is to unwrap your block, recycle the plastic and bury the block in your garden with about 1 1/2 in of soil on top and water daily! (if the current season allows)
The benefits that the mycelium in the fruiting block will have on the ecosystem of your soil and thus your plants is incredible!
